Presentation Evening
Bradford (Park Avenue) held their Presentation Evening on Friday 11th May at the Horsfall Stadium.
Bradford midfielder Nathan Hotte picked up all three of the major awards; Supporters’ Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year and Manager’s Player of the Year.
Hotte, 24, commented: ‘I’m absolutely delighted. The biggest one is the Players’ Player, it’s the best feeling to be appreciated by the other players. It’s been a long season, and the main aim was to achieve promotion which we wanted to do all along. It is the best feeling I’ve had in football.’
Also, the Avenue striker Richard Marshall was named as the club’s leading goalscorer with 19 goals in all competitions.
At the end of the night, manager John Deacey addressed the people who attended the event, commenting on the season, and thanking key individuals at the club. Meanwhile, the Bradford (Park Avenue) manager, presented his Assistant Manager Mark Hume with an award for his work.
A massive thank you to….
Everyone !!!!
Seriously though, John & Marc (and Graham Mitchell) deserve all the praise for what
they have achieved this season, FA Cup 1st round for the first time in 8 years, The
Final of the WRFA C cup and to top it all Promotion to Blue Square North.
All the players who have played for us this season have contributed and it is clear
many have progressed significantly throughout the season.
Emma has worked her magic and kept the players playing and Premo has done what
Premo does best – Shout moan & complain but the team always look immaculately
turned out.
It is a team effort and none of the above could have been achieved with the support
of loyal fans and the volunteers that make sure that the games are played.
Trevor, Joyce & Sharon (Secretaries),
Tony, Pete, Ian S, Ian F, JohnT, John G & Dan on the gates,
Shadow, Tank, Drooby, Connor, the Stewards
Trevor & Chris P raflle tickets/ golden goals
Sheila & Trish in the Tea bar
Dannielle & Jess in the bar
Tim P (Programme editor) Lewis Sale Press officer have made a tremendous
differenceto how we are perceived and have both taken their roles to a very high
professional level.
We have also blooded a young up and coming guest announcer called John Helm
and we think he may have a future in the broadcasting game.
Roger (Mr Scratchings) Banks has kept us supplied with Real Ale in many instances
at his own expense. At the start of the season we used to buy 6 bottles for Kev &
Howard, Roger sold 700 bottles on Sunday.
Maria (Pitbull) Bruce … A modern day Dick Turpin, don’t argue, just give her your
money.
What a shame that Ronnie and Pete Briggs did not live to see the game, perhaps
Ronnie pissed god off enough to get him on our side just to shut him up.
Finally we will be holding the presentation night at the club house on Fri 11th May
at 8pm. Come along to show your support for the boys and bring lots of money as
Maria will be there
Deacey: ‘It’s Great for Bradford (Park Avenue)’
John Deacey
Manager, Bradford (Park Avenue)
‘I thought we just about it deserved it, but FC (United of Manchester) pushed us all the way.’
‘I think we created some decent chances, especially in the second half, and we should’ve been more ruthless. But, it worked out in the end.’
‘Tom Greaves is great to come off the bench. I had a quiet word with him, to make a name and put himself in the paper. It was a great ball by Adam Clayton, and you have to be there to finish.’
‘I think so, (as his greatest achievement as a manager) I’ve knocked on the door three times and this time we have got promotion. It’s great for Bradford (Park Avenue), the board, the supporters, and everyone who is involved, they have worked ever so hard.’
‘I think you have to think about it straightaway (strengthening the squad), we will sit down with the board, and try to strengthen the squad where we can.’
Bradford (Park Avenue) 1-0 FC United of Manchester (After Extra Time)
Bradford (Park Avenue) secured their place in the Conference North next season, thanks to Tom Greaves’ goal in the final stages of extra time, against FC United of Manchester at the Horsfall Stadium.
John Deacey named an unchanged starting eleven for the playoff final. However, Rob O’Brien returned from injury, to replace Michael Duckworth on the bench.
The first notable chance fell to the visitors. A long throw from Greg Stones found Mike Norton, but, his volley deflected wide from eight yards.
The home side responded with an attack of their own. A loose ball was picked up by Richard Marshall, however, his turn and shot with his left foot dragged wide of the far post.
Furthermore, the Avenue continued to attack, and Jon Worsnop denied Alex Davidson from 12 yards. Three minutes later, after neat play in the middle of the park, Nicky Boshell found himself unmarked, but, saw his effort from 12 yards, fly over the bar.
On the other hand, half way through the first half, Alex Davidson limped off with a hamstring injury. The Bradford captain Rob O’Brien replaced the winger.
As the sun continued to shine down on the Horsfall Stadium, the home side continued to put pressure on their opponents goal. The Avenue striker Richard Marshall saw a header saved by Jon Worsnop. Then, Nicky Boshell sent another shot over the bar, despite trying to catch the goalkeeper off his line from the edge of the box.
Before the break, FC United of Manchester looked dangerous, and came close to taking the lead. Firstly, Kyle Jacobs turned inside, onto his left foot, but, his shot hit the side netting from 12 yards. However, a minute before the half time whistle, Adam Jones’ header at the back post was caught by John Lamb, from a Carlos Roca delivery.
The second half started, as the first half finished. The visitors saw a header from Dean Stott go over the bar from eight yards, and also, Carlos Roca curled a free kick wide from the edge of the box.
On the hour mark, James Knowles’ powerful run, allowed the defender to set Nicky Boshell away, but, his driven shot skimmed the post from 20 yards.
Nevertheless, FC United of Manchester responded immediately. Their left back Lee Neville squared the ball to Jake Cottrell, but, he produced a fine save from John Lamb, to tip the ball over from 18 yards.
With both managers making substitutions to find a winner, the atmosphere was tense. Then, for Avenue, Ross Daly found himself unmarked in the box, but, he decided to square the ball to Matty James. However, the substitute was denied by the visitors defence, who cleared the ball away from danger.
A similar situation occurred again for Bradford. This time, Matty James dribbled into the box, and instead of shooting, his attempted pass to Richard Marshall was cut out by the FC United of Manchester defenders.
The game went to extra time.
Soon after the whistle, Matty James was close to giving his side the lead, but, despite diving to meet Nicky Boshell’s cross, the striker failed to connect with the ball.
Three minutes later, the away side had a goal disallowed. Despite, Mike Norton’s clinical finish from 12 yards, the referee awarded the Avenue a free kick, as Martin Drury was adjudged to have been pushed in the box.
Furthermore, Nicky Platt got in front of his marker to meet Mike Norton’s cross, but, his volley flew over the bar from five yards.
Before half time in extra time, Tom Greaves was introduced to find a winner for the home side.
After the whistle, Matthew Wolfenden found himself unmarked in the box, only to nod wide, after meeting a cross from the left wing.
Then, Tom Greaves nearly scored. The striker controlled a loose ball, only to hit a left footed shot just wide from 20 yards.
As the game appeared to be heading to penalties, it was Tom Greaves who scored the winner, two minutes before full time. The Avenue right back Adam Clayton dribbled down the right wing, and his cross was met by the striker, who tapped the ball home from close range.
As the referee looked at his watch, he blew his whistle, and Bradford (Park Avenue) were promoted to the Conference North to the delight of the home supporters.

We announce that they will be on sale from this time.
11:45 wed: The council inform us that due to new police intelligence,
they want us to suspend the sale of tickets and attend a meeting at 14:30.
We take the decision to continue with the sale but warn that the game
might change date time and venue.
We inform the league and FC.
14:30 Wed:- Bob & Kev from BPA, Andy Walsh from FC attend the
meeting with the police & council.
The Police state that they will not be able to provide any support
in the event of any problem at our game and that they have obtained
intelligence that suggests that some FC supporters may travel
without tickets and cause trouble outside the stadium.
Both FC & BPA state that there has not been a single arrest
during our many games at Horsfall but the council take the
position that the risk is too great for the game to go ahead on
Saturday on the basis that if there was any trouble there would
be no police support.
FC & BPA reluctantly had to accept the council decision and
subsequently all parties agreed to the game being on Sunday
with a 2pm kick off.
We have sold over 700 tickets during Wednesday.
We would suggest supporters who want tickets get there
Thursday afternoon as when they have gone they have gone.
We will put a message on the website when we sell out, but we
